Do you know who I am?

No? Not surprising. It's not important to you or most anybody else who I am. There is no reason to know who I am. You occasionally hear a celebrity or politician ask this question to gain favor or escape some trouble. It's not important who they are either. But asked in another context, about Jesus, it is the most important question you are ever asked. Second most important for most of us is "Do you take this man/woman to be your lawfully wedded husband/wife?" I got that one right 38 years ago. I didn't get this one right until 20 years ago. Let's go to the New Testament, Matthew16:13-20.

Peter's Confession of Christ

13
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
14They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ,[b] the Son of the living God."
17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,[c] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[d] will not overcome it.[e] 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[f] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[g] loosed in heaven." 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

"Who do you say I am?" If you answer that question correctly about Jesus you are on your way to eternity in fellowship with God. Non Christian cults and non believers botch the answer to that question--adding something to Jesus ar taking something away. He is not just a wise prophet. He is God! See how He praises Peter for the answer Peter gave. If you know a little about Peter, you know that Peter wasn't always right. He failed like we all do. But he got this most important thing right. Those of us who are saved accept that Jesus is who he said he was in the New Testament and what Peter exclaimed, "He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God." If you answer that question correctly, your life will be changed because your focus will be changed from a temporal fixation to an eternal fixation. It makes all the difference.
